The BLUECO-TAP (Thematic Annual Programming) initiative represents a strategic effort to strengthen collaboration among nationally funded research projects within the framework of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP). Rather than duplicating existing research, the TAP focuses on creating added value by connecting different national projects through a structured network. Its primary objective is to foster knowledge exchange, improve the visibility and impact of scientific outputs at the European level, and build a dynamic research community centered on shared thematic priorities.

Running from February 2026 to February 2028, the TAP aims to provide a collaborative space for researchers, enabling the sharing of results, experiences, and best practices across projects. It also supports the capitalization and dissemination of research outcomes beyond individual initiatives, promoting the production of policy-relevant documents, knowledge syntheses, and high-impact scientific publications. Additionally, the initiative encourages mobility, capacity building, and the identification of opportunities for joint research and coordinated responses to funding calls.

The core theme of BLUECO-TAP is "Building resilience of coastal and marine socio-ecosystems under multiple pressures to support a sustainable blue economy in a changing world". The initiative adopts an integrated approach that combines environmental, social, economic, and legal aspects, involving key actors from the “quadruple helix” (academia, policymakers, industry, and civil society). The projects cover complementary areas, including the development of digital tools and monitoring systems, the study of ecosystems and their climate-related changes, and the design of adaptation, mitigation, and restoration strategies. Currently, the BLUECO-TAP brings together national projects from Italy, France, Greece, and Sweden covering topics such as digital twins, augmented observatories, coastal flooding models, biodiversity and ecosystem connectivity, and advanced monitoring technologies. Through its implementation phases and collaborative framework, BLUECO-TAP seeks to strengthen European research integration and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable blue economy in a rapidly changing global context.
